Twins

I've just added three new listings to the shop, including these very sweet twin day dresses! Made by 'Nilvira De Luxe' in the 50s, they are in lovely condition. They both have the same vivid leaf print - one in a bright azure blue and the other in earthy, autumnal tones.

It seems a shame for them to part after sixty years together so I am offering a discount to any lovely customer who would like to buy both at the same time! The brown is priced at £35 and the blue at £38 but the pair will be available at £60 - a great price for two 50s dresses in such nice condition! Leave me a comment, convo me on Etsy or email me at ellymaggy [at] gmail.com, if you are interested.

The third listing is another mid-century dress but a little more fancy in style. It has a beautiful, tailored collar and a very pretty rose print. Its design reminds me of the full-skirted shirt dresses Julianne Moore wears in Far from Heaven. Take a look in the shop for measurements and more information. These pieces are the first in a mini collection of fifties dresses that I've been gathering together for the shop. I'll be listing the remaining pieces soon but first I have some hand-washing and dry-cleaning to do! Hope you like the new pieces!

Shop Update

I'm pleased to finally have a mini shop update to share with you! In between a busy time at work, a never-ending winter cold and some very uncooperative weather, the shop has been placed on the back burner... but I hope that is set to change! I have just listed these four lovely pieces and I'm drafting a few more items, which I'll be posting over the weekend.

90s flower embroidery cardigan

40s style dogwood necklace
1960s tapestry cape
I'll also be getting back on track with posts about my American travels! In the meantime, pop on over to the shop to take a browse at the new items. I think the tapestry cape is one of the nicest pieces I've ever listed!

West Coast Wanderings V

Here are some more photographs from my time in America...and there will be more on the way. After two nights in San Francisco, we flew to Portland and were greeted with even more sunshine. There was definitely a softer, more autumnal quality to the sun than in California but it was just as pretty and uplifting. The trees put on a spectacular display of reds, oranges and yellows.

We experienced two beautiful dusk-lit panoramas. On our first full day, we hiked up Mount Tabor to catch some fading light and look through the evergreens to Mount Hood. Then, the following evening, we visited the grounds of Pittock Mansion for a mirror-image view, back over the city.

The colours of the sky and full moon were incredible that night... but hard to capture on my camera!

West Coast Wanderings IV

These pictures are from the first two days of my trip away. We flew into hot sunshine in San Francisco so we spent most of our time outdoors, walking around The Mission district and taking a trip to Twin Peaks for a near 360-degree panorama of the city.

We also made the most of the clear skies by walking through Golden Gate Park - stopping off at the Japanese Garden en route - to see the Pacific at Ocean Beach.

I'll share more pictures from my holiday in the coming weeks. I took so many, it will take a while to sift through them all!

Unfortunately, the American bits and bobs I mentioned in my last post did not materialise. The trip was so busy that I had no proper time for thrifting but I do have a pile of 50s dresses ready to list so, as soon as I'm back in the swing of things, I'll be photographing those and posting details here. In the meantime, I've re-opened the shop and there are lots of goodies available so take a little look. Shipping will be a bit delayed this week so please note that if you place an order between the 4th and 10th, I'll be shipping your parcel on the 11th. I'm really looking forward to getting back to work on the shop and adding new items soon!

Trick or Treat

After two weeks in the US, I'm back in England and will be posting properly soon but, in the meantime, here are some Portland pumpkins I snapped on my trip away... Happy Halloween!

Shop news

Hello! Well, I started September with lots of plans for shop updates and blogposts but the days disappeared rather too quickly and now it's October all of a sudden! There were some good reasons for time running away (a trip to London and a long weekend in Cumbria) and some bad (a nasty bug which resulted in several days in bed). The blogposts and updates will be on their way soon enough but, first, I'm travelling to the West Coast of America for a very special reason - I'm getting married!!

Usually, if I'm away for a day or two, I prefer to run a sale and delay shipping orders but, as it's such a big trip, I've decided to shut up shop for the full two weeks that I'll be in America. The store will be closed from 12th - 27th October. I've already got some really nice mid-century pieces ready to add to Elly Maggy Vintage when I get back and hopefully there might be some American bits and bobs to list too! So keep an eye out when the shop re-opens!! And see you soon!

Anniversary Sale!

Here's the exciting news, I spoke about in my last post. Elly Maggy Vintage turns one on Tuesday!! I can't believe it has been 12 months since I opened the store!

Things began quite slowly while I figured out the quirks of Etsy and picture-taking but, since the start of 2013, it's been getting busier and I've been sending more and more vintage to far-flung places (Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, America, Norway, France...it's a long list!). It has been especially lovely to hear back from customers who are enjoying their new clothes! As a thank you and to celebrate the shop's birthday, I am offering 20% off in the store from Monday to Wednesday (23rd-25th).

**Prices will be automatically updated and no other discount codes will be accepted during the sale**

Enjoy the sale. And THANK YOU!!!

Just listed

It has been a horrible day here weather-wise. The wind has been tossing around the beech trees, throwing birds out of branches, and a torrential rainstorm has been rattling the windows. As a result, I've spent a lazy Sunday afternoon indoors but I have managed to get up a new listing in the shop. I took the pictures two weeks ago (when the sun was shining!) but I've been sitting on them since then. Finally they're up online!

And so does the hip pocket with its lovely pleats!

Take a little look in the shop for all the details. I made a reconnaisance trip to town for new pieces yesterday and managed to see a few nice bits and bobs. I usually buy things straightaway for the Etsy shop but I was in a rush so I'll be going back tomorrow with fingers crossed that they're all still there! The update might be a little way off as I'll be away for work at the end of the week for a few days (so any items bought on Thursday-Friday will be shipped after the weekend) but I have some good news to post before then so keep your eyes peeled!

North West Wanderings II

With autumn arriving, I wanted to share a couple of photos from the start of an unusually sunny summer. Back when the sun was just starting to shine, I took a daytrip by train to Chester. I wandered along the river, in front of The Rows and through the ancient ampitheatre, where a Roman foot soldier was giving a guided tour and workers munched on sandwiches among the remains.

I spent a small part of the day thrifting and found a 1970s dress, which has already sold and made its way across the sea to New York. It's funny to think of the journey it has made!

Autumn pieces

1950s Vogue plaid jacket
After the mini update yesterday, I wanted to post some autumn goodies I've been adding to the shop over the past week. A couple of these pieces have been listed just a few minutes ago! There's stuff from the 1950s to the 1990s with every decade in between.

1990s black zip-up cardigan
80s does 40s wasp waist jacket
1980s Jaeger Annie Hall trousers
1980s Jaeger plaid skirt in navy, cream and orange
1970s chestnut brown knit
1960s knit polo shirt with scalloped collar
1970s patchwork suede bag
I'm very pleased that there are now more than 70 pieces in the shop for the first time since I opened Elly Maggy Vintage. With the chaotic busyness of the last few weeks hopefully done and dusted and a more regular schedule with work outside the shop, I aim to devote more time to thrifting and listing. I have some exciting plans up my sleeve for later this month so look out for news on here!
