Shop Update: Purses, Maxis + 100 Listings

1980s metallic patchwork bucket bag by Suzy Smith
This week, Elly Maggy Vintage reached 100 items for the very first time! Every year since opening in 2012, I have been promising to spend more time on the shop... But I think 2017 might the year that I actually do it once and for all... no jinx! These items all helped Elly Maggy Vintage hit three digits and made their way into the shop this past week.

Hello and a shop sale!

Hello! I'm back from a very, very snowy Portland and a very warm San Francisco.

The shop is open again and I'm having a wee sale to celebrate. Everything is currently 20% off until Thursday! All items purchased in the sale will be shipped on Friday.

West Coast Bound

Things have been a lot slower in the shop than I hoped over the past month. I've been shipping orders but, due to work and personal reasons, there has been no time for listings since the start of the year. I hope this is set to change very soon as I have some really great pieces to share - a couple more 50s dresses from the stash I have been adding to the shop (take a look at the first three here, here and here), some lovely Liberty print and various other goodies. But, before I get back to regular listing, I am returning to the West Coast of America for two weeks! It feels like such a long time since I was last there in October...

I have decided to shut up shop while I'm away as it's a long time to delay shipping and I'm not sure how often I'll be online to answer messages. Elly Maggy Vintage will close tomorrow afternoon at 5 pm (GMT) and will re-open when I return on Sunday 16th February. Look out for new listings and a shop sale when I get back!

Shop news

Hello! Well, I started September with lots of plans for shop updates and blogposts but the days disappeared rather too quickly and now it's October all of a sudden! There were some good reasons for time running away (a trip to London and a long weekend in Cumbria) and some bad (a nasty bug which resulted in several days in bed). The blogposts and updates will be on their way soon enough but, first, I'm travelling to the West Coast of America for a very special reason - I'm getting married!!

Usually, if I'm away for a day or two, I prefer to run a sale and delay shipping orders but, as it's such a big trip, I've decided to shut up shop for the full two weeks that I'll be in America. The store will be closed from 12th - 27th October. I've already got some really nice mid-century pieces ready to add to Elly Maggy Vintage when I get back and hopefully there might be some American bits and bobs to list too! So keep an eye out when the shop re-opens!! And see you soon!

Anniversary Sale!

Here's the exciting news, I spoke about in my last post. Elly Maggy Vintage turns one on Tuesday!! I can't believe it has been 12 months since I opened the store!

Things began quite slowly while I figured out the quirks of Etsy and picture-taking but, since the start of 2013, it's been getting busier and I've been sending more and more vintage to far-flung places (Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, America, Norway, France...it's a long list!). It has been especially lovely to hear back from customers who are enjoying their new clothes! As a thank you and to celebrate the shop's birthday, I am offering 20% off in the store from Monday to Wednesday (23rd-25th).

**Prices will be automatically updated and no other discount codes will be accepted during the sale**

Enjoy the sale. And THANK YOU!!!

Autumn pieces

1950s Vogue plaid jacket
After the mini update yesterday, I wanted to post some autumn goodies I've been adding to the shop over the past week. A couple of these pieces have been listed just a few minutes ago! There's stuff from the 1950s to the 1990s with every decade in between.

1990s black zip-up cardigan
80s does 40s wasp waist jacket
1980s Jaeger Annie Hall trousers
1980s Jaeger plaid skirt in navy, cream and orange
1970s chestnut brown knit
1960s knit polo shirt with scalloped collar
1970s patchwork suede bag
I'm very pleased that there are now more than 70 pieces in the shop for the first time since I opened Elly Maggy Vintage. With the chaotic busyness of the last few weeks hopefully done and dusted and a more regular schedule with work outside the shop, I aim to devote more time to thrifting and listing. I have some exciting plans up my sleeve for later this month so look out for news on here!

Here's a mini shop update with pieces for changeable end of summer / start of autumn weather. Click on the links for information on each item... And keep scrolling down because I've saved the best 'til last with this update - a beautiful 1970s Indian dress! I have a big autumn update planned for tomorrow/Monday so stay tuned for details on this ol' blog... I hope you like the new pieces!

Prints - part I

1960s summer maxi dress by Dorothy Perkins
After a little shop haitus, I've been very busy getting new listings up over the past few days. So busy, in fact, that I'm going to split the latest update over two posts. The new pieces range from the 60s to the early 80s and have one thing in common: big, bold prints.

80s does 50s cotton striped playsuit
The cloche below is really sweet and in perfect nick. I've been pretty lucky with finding clothes for the shop recently.

This last dress is one of my favourite finds. I was in a hurry and gave myself a few minutes to duck into one of the shops I regularly visit. I was skimming through the jam-packed dresses rail and about to give up when I spotted its lovely cherry print. I pulled it off the rack and was really taken with its maxi length and butterfly sleeves. Take a look in the shop for all the details.

Two summer dresses

Here are two summer dresses, just added to the shop.

1960s Mexican dress

I think this hand-embroidered Oaxacan beauty was quite a find. How did it make its way to these shores and wind up in a little town in the North West of England? It must have some tales to tell! And the gingham pinafore is exactly the kind of dress I like wearing at this time of year - it's really pretty with its hip pockets and tie belt but also extremely cool for hot summer weather.

As mentioned in my last post, I've been quite busy lately so etsy listings have been a bit slower than I'd like but I hope things will quieten down soon. I have two more shop updates already in the works... I just need to find time to fit in some picture-taking! The first update will be full of 60s and 70s pieces and the second will include some of my own vintage clothing. There are already several items that I've passed on to the shop (here, here, here, here and here!) but I have more clearing out to do... I find it difficult to let go of vintage clothes because each piece is unique and has memories but I'm trying to de-clutter my belongings and I want others to enjoy them too! I'll be posting the updates here and also sharing some recent thrifting finds (re-cluttering in action!).

Away Sale!

I'm taking a little trip from tomorrow until Wednesday and, while I'm away, ALL items in the shop will be 20% OFF! There's no discount code this time as items will be automatically reduced while the sale is on.

So, if you've had your eye on anything, be sure to snap it up in the next few days... And watch this space for some lovely new vintage when I get back!

Mini shop update

These three lovely pieces have just been listed. The leather gloves were a very special find (still in their original packaging!) while the blouse and trousers are perfect, everyday pieces for summer. Visit the shop and take a little look around...

Introducing...

my new shop assistant - Ms Chil-Daw!

Ms Chil-Daw was a very lucky gumtree find. I'm pretty sure she dates from the 1950s but I still need to do a bit more research to be sure (I think she could even be a little older). She's in fantastic condition and adjustable to different sizes, which will be great for showing smaller and larger pieces.

She'll be making an appearance in the next shop update and cropping up throughout my Etsy listings in the coming days - after seeing how good she looks in the new items, I've decided I need to give more pieces the Ms Chil-Daw treatment! It's going to be a busy few days!

Jean Genie

Here is the second part of my 90s shop update, full of Spring denim.

1990s denim dungarees
Vintage Diesel jeans
1990s sleeveless check shirt
1990s denim mini
1990s button-up denim midi skirt

As well as the new additions, I'm also including a nice pinafore and cut-off skirt that have been lurking in the shop a little longer!

1980s Levi's cut-off denim skirt
1990s dark denim pinafore

I really like all these casual pieces - they're nice for everyday running around - but I think I'll also choose something a bit different for the next shop update. Keep your eyes peeled! And, in other news, I've created a little facebook page for EllyMaggy Vintage. I'm not much of a one for social media in personal matters but I think it can be a very nice way to keep up-to-date with things that interest you. I'll be posting sales and bits and bobs about the shop, in addition to the pieces I post here, so 'like' the page, if you have facebook and you're so inclined! Thank you!
